Omron H8BM-R Successor Now Available: Toho Technology TCN9 Series Multi-Counter/Timer

2026.10.02

Products

Yashima Sangyo now supplies the TCN9 Series multi-counter/timer from Toho Technology Corporation. The TCN9 is the successor to Omron’s H8BM-R Series, which Omron is discontinuing. Omron has no replacement of its own and recommends the TCN9 in its official end-of-production notice. Toho Technology began releasing the TCN9 in stages from July 1, 2026.

🔴 Discontinuation Schedule for the Omron H8BM-R Series

  • Last order date: End of December 2026
  • Last shipment date: End of March 2027

Both dates also apply to the H8BM-R options (Y92S-25 packing and Y92S-26 short-circuit plate). If you use the H8BM-R in your equipment, we recommend planning the switch to the TCN9 soon.

🔴 Drop-In Replacement: Fully Compatible with the H8BM-R

Omron’s notice rates the TCN9 as compatible in all of these areas: body color, outer dimensions, wiring and terminal layout, mounting (panel cutout) dimensions, ratings and performance, operating characteristics, and operation. You can replace an existing H8BM-R without changing the panel cutout or the wiring.

🔴 About the TCN9 Series

The TCN9 has 9 built-in counters that track how many times a machine is used and how long it runs. It then warns operators in advance when maintenance is due. You can also use it as a multi-stage preset counter.

  • 9 counters in one unit. Each one can be a counter or a totalizing timer, and you can mix the two.
  • Individual forecast outputs for each counter. The 3-stage type adds a pre-forecast display and an equipment-stop output.
  • IP54 oil-resistant front panel, so the setting area holds up against oil and water.
  • Per-digit keys make set values easy to change.
  • Compact size: DIN 72 × 72 mm, with a short body only 79 mm deep.
  • Key protect prevents accidental changes.
  • Multi NPN/PNP output, and DC 2-wire sensors connect directly.
  • Short-circuit enable input built in as standard, so you can build a multi-stage counter without external short-circuit wiring.
  • Power-failure memory on EEPROM, which keeps data for 10 years or more.

Main Specifications

  • Supply voltage: 24 VDC (85–110% of rated voltage)
  • Max. counting speed: 30 Hz on count inputs 1–7; 30 Hz/500 Hz switchable on count inputs 8 and 9
  • Control output: open collector, 30 VDC max., 100 mA max.
  • Display: 7-segment LCD with backlight
  • Weight: approx. 250 g (body only)

🔴 Points to Note When Replacing

  • Power consumption is about 2.2 W at 26.4 VDC. The H8BM-R draws about 1.7 W.
  • Output mode: The TCN9 has no named “F mode.” It behaves the same way, though: counting continues after the set value is reached.
  • Safety standards: UL61010-1 and CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 61010-1:12. The H8BM-R was certified to UL508 and CSA C22.2 No. 14. EMC compliance (EN61326) is unchanged.
